MANILA — Globe Telecom on Friday night announced it will provide roaming credits for Filipinos and subscribers living in quake-hit Myanmar, Thailand, and parts of Vietnam.

Roads were broken by the tremors and a hospital had become a "mass casualty area" according to officials in Myanmar, while the quake had forced the suspension of train services in Bangkok.

No Filipinos was been reported hurt so far from the earthquake, according to the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.

Globe said starting Friday evening, Filipinos and company subscribers in Myanmar will receive P500 worth of roaming credits for outgoing and incoming calls, as well as SMS messages, without the need to register.

The offer will be granted to them after they are detected by the company and a confirmation message will be sent to confirm the free roaming service.

Meanwhile, Globe Prepaid and TM users will have the same assistance in the form of "prepaid load". Globe Postpaid users meantime will have their bill adjusted.

In Thailand and Vietnam, Globe subscribers will have 1GB data, 15 minutes of calls, and 15 SMS credits all valid for a week.

"This immediate assistance will help Filipinos in affected areas reach their loved ones and access essential services," the telecom said in a release.

Globe reminded subscribers to connect to partner networks to receive the services, such as Telenor/Atom or MPT for Myanmar; AIS or DTAC for Thailand; and Mobifone or Viettel in Vietnam.

“We understand the importance of staying connected, especially in the wake of a disaster. By providing free roaming services to Filipinos in Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, Globe ensures that our customers have a reliable means to reach their loved ones and access critical emergency information. We hope and pray for everyone's safety during this difficult time,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, head of Globe International Business. - with reports from Agence France-Presse
