MANILA — Meralco has announced that around 100,000 prepaid consumers are also entitled to the refund, ordered by the Energy Regulatory Commission, that will start next month.

Meralco was ordered to refund almost P20 billion for its overcollection from July 2022 to December 2024.

According to Meralco Spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga, the same P0.20/kwh will also be deducted from the overall rate of Meralco kuryente load or prepaid users.

For example, Kload participants who currently pay the P12.69/kwh rate will be charged around P12.49/kwh assuming that the current rate will remain.

KLoad users interviewed by ABS-CBN News said they had no idea at all about their inclusion in the refund process. But Zaldarriaga said Meralco will also inform them thru text message soon.

For residential prepaid customers, consuming 200-500kwh, the current rate for march hovers around P12.29-P13.47/kWh but this will likely change by April.
