MANILA — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) rolled out on Thursday lower promotional rates for its domestic and international registered mail services to "provide the public with more affordable courier services."

This was after the government-run postal service said they performed operational cost-saving measures, streamlined operations, and renewed focus on transparency and accountability.

As stated by Postmaster General Luis Carlos, the new promo rates will offer the public “a better choice” that will “enable them to fulfill their mailing needs at a fraction of the cost”.

“We are confident that more people will turn to PHLPost for their mailing needs locally and internationally. Our commitment to providing efficient and reliable services remains unwavering, ensuring that our customers receive the best possible experience,” said Carlos as PHLPost expects higher demand for its mailing services.

New mailing service rates are now calculated based on the volumetric weight of the mails and packages, with prices varying depending on the delivery regions including distant cities, populated areas, and remote locations.

Domestic Tracked Items mailed and delivered within the National Capital Region (NCR) will cost Php 25.00 fee for the first 50 grams, while its international mail service offered as "the lowest in the market", charge rates starting at P1,680 for a 1.5 kg ordinary mail to Japan, P1,254 to Singapore, and P1,823 to United Kingdom.

In addition, PHLPost’s rates for its International Express Mail Service will vary according to the packages’ destination.

For instance, rates for packages bound for Australia start at P444.50 for the first 500 grams and increase to P2,413 for the first kilogram, while packages to be sent to Singapore are charged at P240 for the first 500 grams and P1,167 for the first kilogram.

“Even with the new rates, we assure the public that their mail and packages will be handled with the efficiency and highest standards of service,” said Carlos, reiterating PHLPost’s “commitment to providing efficient and reliable services” for its customers.

Meanwhile, the rate for Domestic Ordinary Mail (non-trackable items) remains subject to the approval of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for a possible increase in postage rate.
