MANILA -- The maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for imported to rice has been lowered to P55 per kilo from P58, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Tuesday.

DA spokesperson Arnel de Mesa said the new maximum SRP would take effect on Wednesday, February 5.

In a separate statement, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the MSRP could further drop in the coming weeks.

“After this reduction, we plan to lower it further to P52 a kilo by mid-February and then at P49 per kilo two weeks after. This should reflect the lower global prices of rice and the reduced tariff,” he said.
