MANILA -- Toyota Motors Philippines said it will be servicing more than 28,000 cars to reprogram a part of its engine.

In a letter sent to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Toyota said it will be servicing for free 28,828 units of the Toyota Raize produced between December 1, 2021 through July 15, 2024.

According to Toyota, improper programming of the engine's electronic control unit (ECU) may "make the brake pedal harder to press" in certain driving conditions, "which means the vehicle may take longer to stop."

The company said it will notify affected customers, who will then need to set an appointment with their dealers to get their engines reprogrammed.
