MANILA -- Globe and digital bank GoTyme have signed a data-sharing agreement to help prevent digital scams and other financial cybercrimes.

In a statement, the telco giant said that under the data-sharing agreement, Globe may share with GoTyme information about mobile numbers potentially used by fraudsters, including names, addresses, and contact details.

Without such an agreement, law enforcement or courts would need a warrant or subpoena to get information about a suspected scammer. This process usually takes months.

Globe said this comes after the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the National Privacy Commission, urged financial institutions and telcos to work together against fraud.

"We at GoTyme Bank provide not just a simple and beautiful banking experience but also secure and safe service," said chief information security officer Albert Dela Cruz. "This DSA with Globe augments the bank's cybersecurity systems and measures to protect customers from cyber criminals and fraudsters,” he added.

The number of scam calls and messages in the Philippines grew by 200 percent during the first eight months of 2024 compared to last year, anti-scam app Whoscall said in September.
