MANILA -- Jollibee's milk tea unit Milksha is investing in a Taiwanese soup brand.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Jollibee said Milksha is getting a 70 percent stake in Tien Hsia Sheng Co., Ltd., which operates Moon Moon Food.

Moon Moon Food is a popular soup restaurant in Taiwan, and it has been a Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2018.

The foodie website said it is known for its signature chicken soup, which is made daily with freshly slaughtered free-range chicken.

Milksha, meanwhile, is a Taiwanese milk tea brand being sold in selected Chowking stores nationwide.

Jollibee said Moon Moon Food is a profitable business with 13 outlets in Taiwan and one in Singapore.

"This strategic move reinforces Milksha’s position as a leader in the Tea segment in Taiwan by accretively integrating Moon Moon Food’s resources and complementary offerings to enhance ability to meet evolving customer needs, further strengthening scale, valuation and expanding consumer base of Milksha," Jollibee said.

Jollibee Food Corp's international operations, as well as its foray into coffee, have driven the company's strong income growth in 2024.

JFC said it booked system-wide sales of P281.1 billion in the first three quarters of the year, which was 12 percent higher than in the same period last year. EBITDA from the company's international operations grew 25.5 percent in the same period, said the company's chief finance officer Richard Shin.
