Honda recalls some cars over pressure fuel pump, steering gearbox issues

MANILA — Honda is recalling some of its cars in the Philippines over their pressure fuel pump and steering gearbox issues.

In a letter to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Honda Cars Philippines said it is recalling 1,351 units of its 2024 CR-V models over their high-pressure fuel pumps.

"Findings show that High Pressure Fuel Pump may have cracks on its Core B which may result to gasoline leakage," the company said in a statement. 

Honda Philippines said, in case of a leak, users may smell gasoline whether the vehicle is at rest or is being driven.

Honda said it has not received reports of a fuel leak caused by the high pressure fuel pump so far. But if a gasoline leak is detected, the fuel pump will be replaced for free.

The leak test will take only 30 minutes, while replacing it will take three hours at most.

Honda Philippines also said it is recalling more than 5,500 units of thr Civic 4D, CR-V, and Civic Type-R over problems with their steering gearbox.

Honda Philippines explained that problems in the steering gearbox "[create] an abnormal or sticky steering that makes the driver feel in danger."

The firm said there are no reported cases of injury or crashes due to the broken gearbox, but it will noenetheless replace these for free.

Repair of the steering gearbox will take 30 minutes, while replacing it will take about four hours.
