MANILA -- Alfredo "Al" Panlilio is the newest president of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP).

In a statement, one of the country's largest business groups said Panlilio's term as the 77th MAP president begins in 2025. 

Panlilio was president and chief executive officer of PLDT from 2021 until 2023, when he retired for health reasons. The company at that time noted that it was recognized both locally and abroad for pioneering brand, corporate social responsibility, cybersecurity, network and sustainability initiatives under Panlilio's leadership.

He is now chairman of Maya Bank, one of the Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) group's fintech arms.

Panlilio first joined PLDT in 2019 as its chief revenue officer. Before this, he was head of customer retail services and corporate communications at Meralco, another MVP-led company.

In Meralco, he was chair of units like Radius Telecoms, e-Meralco Ventures, Powersource First Bulacan Solar, and Pure Meridian Hydropower Corp.

Panlilio is also president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), and is a member of the FIBA Central Board. He also sits as the first vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee. 

Padilla succeeds Rene Almendras of Ayala Corporation as the MAP president. Almendras, however, will remain on the group's board, along with Atty. Noel Bonoan of KPMG R. G. Manabat & Co., Rex Drilon of Center for Excellence in Governance, and Maan Hontiveros of CEO Advisors.

Joining Panlilio in the MAP's Board of Governors, meanwhile, are Atty. Mike Toledo of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation as vice president, Wilson Tan of SGV & Co. as treasurer, Paolo Borromeo of AC Health as Assistant Treasurer, and Gil Genio of GT Capital Holdings as Secretary.
