MANILA (UPDATE) - Smart money, the PLDT group's first e-wallet app, is set for a relaunch.

The Smart Money app has made an appearance on Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store recently, and the app can be downloaded and installed on both iOS and Android devices.

Among the transactions featured on the app are 'Mobile Load' and 'Send Money.' There is also a feature for paying postpaid mobile, cable and internet, water, electricity, toll, and education fees. It also has a list of billers for these services.

However, users can't use the e-wallet app yet to do transactions. A message on the app says users still need to get on a waitlist to try Smart Money's features.

During an interview last November, Smart Communications COO Anastacio Martirez said he intends to retake market share from GCash.

"We were the first in the industry to introduce Smart Money, ahead of GCash," Martirez said.

"Somewhere along the way something happened but that’s not a problem. I’m back. I want to bring it back. I want to rebuild and I hope I can retake," he added.

Smart Money was replaced by Paymaya, which was then rebranded to Maya, which is now a digital bank. ABS-CBN is contacting PLDT for more information, but the telco has yet to reply as of this posting.

GCash, which is operated by PLDT's rival Globe Telecom, currently dominates the e-wallet market in the Philippines.
