MANILA - Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc (AIC)has been awarded the contract to upgrade, operate and maintain the Bohol-Panglao International Airport, the company said in a disclosure to the stock market.

This is the third major airport that AIC will operate, with the other two being the Laguindingan-International Airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental and the Cebu-Mactan International Airport, which is the second busiest airport in the Philippines.

AIC said it received the notice of award from the Department of Transportation and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines last November 18, 2024. The airport will be officially turned over to AIC in 2025.

"The concession agreement's official signing is expected to occur by end-2024," AIC said.

Valued at P4.53 billion, the contract for the Bohol-Panglao airport involves expanding the passenger terminal building, installing essential equipment, and modernizing airside and landside facilities within a 30-year concession period, AIC said.

"This project is not just about upgrading facilities but also about boosting economic opportunities, enhancing tourism, and improving connectivity in the Visayas region, and we are excited to be a part of this initiative," said Aboitiz InfraCapital President and CEO Cosette V. Canilao.

The company said it aims to increase the capacity of the Bohol gateway to 2.5 million passengers annually within the first two years of its takeover, from 2 million passengers at present. This will further increase to 3.9 million passengers yearly by 2030, AIC said.

"These investments will enhance the passenger experience, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the airport’s safety and security standards, aligning with AIC’s vision of creating globally competitive airports that showcase the best of the Philippines," AIC said.

AIC Vice President and Head of Airports Business Rafael Aboitiz said the Bohol-Panglao International Airport is a fast-growing gateway to one of the Philippines' most emerging and iconic tourism destinations.

"Through this project, we aim to bring the same level of excellence and innovation that we are demonstrating with Mactan-Cebu International Airport,” Aboitiz said.
