MANILA -- ACMobility is bullish that the introduction of cheaper models of electric vehicles (EV) and the installation of more charging points will encourage more Filipinos to make the switch.

Carla Buencamino, Head of Mobility Infrastructure at the Ayala-led firm, said there has been a growth in the number of EVs in the Philippines--from 600 in 2020, there are now 24,000 plying the country's roads this year.

"To bring the vehicles below the P1 million price point really opens up that EV market to [the] majority of the people today," she said. "So initially, you had them at, you know, very high-end market, but now, these vehicles are affordable and there are more options today."

Buencamino said ACMobility's brand BYD just launched its newest model in the country, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i which is priced at P948k, which she said is "very competitive." ACMobility is the exclusive Philippine distributor of BYD--one of the world's biggest manufacturers of electric vehicles.

Buencamino also said ACMobility is bringing in new EV models for different needs and clients next year. ACMobility is also planning to double the number of its EV charging stations to more than 200 this year.
