PDP-Laban senatorial candidate and singer-turned-lawyer Jimmy Bondoc has stood by his comments at the height of ABS-CBN's free TV broadcast shutdown, saying it came from a "place of truth and not hatred".

“I am eagerly awaiting your demise. I know how this sounds. And I know the nasty comments which are bound to come. I don't care,” Bondoc said in social media post back then.

In 2020, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises voted to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise application.

Taking a softer stance years later, Bondoc told ABS-CBN's Harapan 2025 that ABS-CBN Entertainment is still the best as he urged the network to face accusations against it.

And I really believe that ABS-CBN entertainment is still the best. It's the best in the world. Ang galing. Kailangan po yun ang pangalagaan, pati nung management or corporate and the legal side of ABS-CBN. Para matapos na, and then we can move on to the franchise issue," Bondoc said.

"Pero ang gusto ko lang malaman ng mga tao na nung nagsalita akong ganon, that comes from a place of truth, hindi hatred. And right now, I'm glad to hear na ang dami ng naka-rebound na mga workers from ABS-CBN." Bondoc also said.

Since the non-renewal of ABS-CBN's free TV broadcast franchise, no case has been filed against it in relation to the issues raised during the House hearings.

House Committee on Ways and Means Chairperson and Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda, who has filed a bill seeking to grant ABS-CBN a new 25-year broadcast franchise, also said that government agencies have cleared the company from allegations of violating its previous franchise.

“The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Bureau of Internal Revenue, during House deliberations on the ABS-CBN franchise in the previous Congress, certified that the franchise grantee did not violate ownership restrictions and did not have pending tax liabilities,” Salceda said in his explanatory note on House Bill 11252.

Bondoc left it up to Congress to decide on Salceda's proposal for a fresh congressional franchise for a network.

"Well, it's not up to me. It's a congressional prerogative. Wala man lang conditions yan. It's not like a contract.

As a senator, Bondoc will be a member of that same Congress that will exercise that prerogative if he wins in the May elections.
