MANILA — Authorities warned of potential flooding as the La Mesa Dam in Quezon City breached its spilling level on Wednesday.

As of 9 a.m., the elevation of the La Mesa Dam was at 80.20 meters — above its overflow elevation or spilling level of 80.15 meters, PAGASA said.

The weather bureau said the water level could still rise due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

It warned of possible flooding in the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subd., Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Valenzuela City (North Expressway, La Huerta Subd.) and Malabon City.

Clogged drainage systems and higher tide levels may worsen the potential flooding, which could render some roads not passable for vehicles, the agency said.

PAGASA urged disaster officials in the said cities to take appropriate actions, including evacuations, as the dam overflows.
