MANILA — Senate Finance Committee Chair Grace Poe said she expected the transmittal of the House-approved General Appropriations Bill or the 2025 national budget by October 25.

"Based on the schedule agreed with the House, the transmittal of the General Appropriations Bill (GAB) is on October 25. We are actually ahead of schedule with hearings," Poe told ABS-CBN News after the House approved next year's budget on Wednesday night.

“Assuming all the vice chairs will submit their committee reports on time, I will be ready to sponsor by then. The hearings in the Senate will continue until October 18. Only after that and the transmittal of the GAB can we start drafting the committee report in the Senate," she added.

Senate President Francis Escudero said Poe would determine the schedule once the budget bill is transmitted and would present that schedule in an all-member caucus.

Congress is in recess and will resume its plenary sessions on November 4.

Meanwhile, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri rejected calls by some congressmen for Vice President Sara Duterte to resign after she skipped the House of Representatives deliberations on her 2025 office budget.

"Hindi naman tama siguro yan. I think that's her prerogative, she was elected by 31 million Filipinos. As she said, she will respect the decision of Congress on her budget. We leave it at that," Zubiri told the Kapihan sa Senado.

"I think the appetite though among the Senators is to increase her budget a bit sa usap-usapan sa lounge," he added. "The appetite of the Senators ha, I'm not saying me, I'm saying the discussions on the lounge is to increase ng kaunti yung budget ng OVP."

"Iyung 700M na inapprove ng House darating sa amin yan 700M eh, 700M so yung appetite ng ibang senador dito sa Senado is dagdagan pa ng konti," he said.

Many senators who attended the OVP budget hearing backed the approval of the budget in full, even after Duterte’s heated exchange with Sen. Risa Hontiveros on her budget.

Duterte accused Hontiveros of politicizing her budget and claimed congressmen were making a case for her impeachment.
