MANILA — Sual, Pangasinan Mayor Liseldo Calugay has signed a bank waiver on Tuesday allowing authorities to scrutinize his bank accounts.

Calugay agreed to signing the said waiver during the hearing of the Senate on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators led by the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality.

Calugay denied having hundreds of millions even after Senator Joel Villanueva said was informed that there were withdrawals of P350 million and P150 million from his bank accounts after last week’s hearing.

Calugay is being romantically linked to dismissed Mayor Alice Guo; they have both denied the allegation.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada reiterated that they are not interested in the romantic relationship but in the possible business partnership of the two.

“We want to establish your partnership if indeed these corporations are used for money-laundering activities,” Estrada said.

“Wala po kaming pinagsamahan po kahit isang negosyo,” Calugay answered.

He also denied having a helipad in the Happy Penguin Resort in Sual. He previously owned the 4,000 square meters of land where the resort stands and sold it for P1.2 million.

Estrada said Guo landed on the said helipad.

The Senate leader also said Calugay gave Guo a helicopter to impress her, which Calugay denied.

Meanwhile, Estrada questioned Calugay for allegedly awarding contracts to a company where his common-law wife was a member of the board and has 70 percent of the shares.

Calugay explained that Pangascasan village awarded the said contracts but Estrada does not believe that he did not influence the decision.
