MANILA — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday said it received reports of 20 casualties across the Philippines due to the recent southwest monsoon or habagat and tropical cyclones Ferdie and Gener.

The OCD did not specify whether the casualties were deaths or injuries but noted that of the 20, nine were from Mimaropa, four from Western Visayas, four from Bangsamoro, two from the Zamboanga Peninsula, and one from Central Visayas.

Posadas said that Western Visayas had the highest number of displaced residents with 73,512 families staying in evacuation centers. He advised the public to stay alert and follow protocols as the bad weather persisted.

So far, infrastructure damage in Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao has reached P2.4 million and the number is expected to rise as other regions have yet to assess the damage caused by the storms, according to the OCD official.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said it distributed at least 32,000 family food packs in nine regions affected by the inclement weather. The agency added that at least 18,000 families were staying in 580 evacuation centers nationwide.
