MANILA -- Meals served during the resumption of House panel deliberations on the proposed 2025 budget of the Office of the Vice President appeared to have a common theme: squid.

This, after Vice President Sara Duterte's office was accused of using "squid tactics" by ACT Teachers Party List Representative France Castro in the last budget hearing.

Last August 27, Duterte engaged in intense exchanges with lawmakers, who scrutinized her office's budget utilization.

"Hindi pwede na 'yung tactics na ganyan… 'Pag nasusukol na ang pusit ay naglalabas ng maitim na tinta. Ayaw natin ng ganoon Madam Chair. Ang pinag-uusapan dito ay budget. 'Wag naman mag-ugaling pusit ang Office of the Vice President," Castro said last August 27.

On Tuesday, budget hearing attendees at the lower house were served champorado with dried squid for breakfast, and sautéed squid with paella negra for lunch.

But the Vice President and her office were not around to enjoy the dish as they skipped the second hearing.

"Nakita n'yo naman binoycott tayo. Pero masarap itong lunch ngayon ha, may pusit, saka paella negra… Ang sarap! Sana pala mayroon ding inihaw na pusit," Castro said in a video posted on her social media account.

The House panel deferred on Tuesday the termination of the deliberations on OVP's budget.
