MANILA — House Committee on Basic Education and Culture Chairman Roman Romulo is urging the Department of Education to review its order mandating teachers to render 6 hours for actual classroom teaching and 2 hours for other ancillary tasks, noting that it overwhelms the teacher with too much work and strains them physically and mentally.

Several teachers' groups earlier said in a House hearing that DepEd Order (DO) No. 005 series of 2024 poses a “physical challenge” for teachers, considering that the new MATATAG curriculum already gave them more classes to handle.

“Actually, ang problema po, I think is sa implementation,” Romulo said in a televised briefing.

The lawmaker said that in some instances, teachers were not given breaks between classes to rest.

“So, ito po lamang, I think, kailangan talagang ma-revise, matingnan at iyon ang hinihingi namin sa DepEd during the last two committee meetings.
