MANILA -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday saluted gymnast Carlos Yulo for winning a second gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yulo ruled the vault finals in the men's artistic gymnastics on Sunday at the Bercy Arena for his second gold of the Summer Games, having emerged as champion in the floor exercise the day before.

"No words can express how proud we are of you, Caloy!" Marcos Jr. said on social media. "You have achieved gold for the Philippines not once, but twice!"

"Filipinos all over the world stood united, cheering and rooting for you. Aming ipinagmamalaki ang tagumpay mong nagniningning! Saludo kami sa iyo!"

Marcos Jr. had said on Saturday that he is confident Yulo's gold medal "will not be the last," and the star gymnast delivered with another emotional triumph.

First Lady Liza Marcos also congratulated Yulo in a separate social media post, wherein she said: "Ay salamat! Now I can breathe again!!"

More incentives are expected to come in for Yulo, who is the first Filipino athlete in history to win multiple medals in a single Olympic Games, and the first two win two golds.

According to the Philippines' Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, gold medalists in international sports competitions shall receive P10 million from the government, silver medalists are entitled to P5 million, while bronze medalists will get P2 million.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan earlier said that the City of Manila is preparing a hero's welcome for Yulo, who is from Leveriza, Malate.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is guaranteed two more medals in the Paris Games courtesy of boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, who have advanced to the semifinals of their respective divisions.
