Filipinos celebrating National Heroes Day should watch our for "modern-day Makapili" or citizens who collaborate with China amid Beijing's bullying of Filipino fisherman and vessels in the West Philippine Sea, the co-convenor of Atin Ito said Monday.

Dubbing Beijing as the new colonizers, Akbayan president and Atin Ito co-convenor Rafaela David said Filipinos should be wary of people who, instead of championing the Philippines' interests, are championing their own or Beijing's interests. 

"'Yang mga traydor sa ating bayan, 'wag pamarisan," she said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview. 

She also criticized Vice President Sara Duterte for remaining silent despite the recent aggression of the Chinese Coast Guard that included ramming a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel. 

She noted that Duterte was quick to issue a statement over the raid of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy over the weekend. 

Duterte earlier condemned what she called “gross abuse of police power” in the police raid at the KOJC compound in Davao City, saying the use of alleged violence against civilians and KOJC members is unacceptable.

In the interview, David rejected a proposal by members of the Filipino-Chinese business community to allow Chinese tourists to enter the country without a tourist visa. 

"Dapat balansehin, wag lang kita ang iniisip. Dapat gobyerno pinapangalagaan din ang national interests," she said.

Atin Ito is also set to give away "payaos" or fish aggregating devices to help Filipino fishermen affected by the Manila-Beijing rift in the West Philippine Sea.
