MANILA – People waiting inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 complained of heat due to a cooling system problem on Friday.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) earlier said it temporarily shut down NAIA's chillers 1, 2, and 4, yesterday due to high operational temperature, but added that they are already taking precautionary measures to prevent potential major damage to the entire cooling system of the airport.

“Disappointing po siya kasi given na andami rin pong tao araw-araw especially yung mga matatanda na pasahero syempre malaking abala po siya kaya nagpapaypay rin po ako ngayon,” Jean Rose Hilotin said while waiting at the airport.

Hilotin said she knew the airport had problems with the cooling system as soon as she saw passengers fanning themselves.

“Na-observe na rin po namin kanina pagkarating na ang init syempre galing ka sa labas tapos pagkababa lang po namin na observe na po namin parang ang init,” she said.

Sarah Ali also experienced discomfort as she had to endure warmer temperature.

“I feel like they should open the aircon po so the people here won’t feel very hot,” she said.

MIAA, in an advisory said, cooling fans have been strategically deployed in the affected areas of the terminal.

The MIAA recommended that passengers wear lightweight clothing, carry fans, and stay hydrated to help cope with the high temperatures inside the terminal.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of our T3 users as we work through this necessary troubleshooting process. We humbly advise our T3 users to wear light clothes, bring fans, and to hydrate, to further mitigate the expected warm temperature at the terminal.” MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said in the advisory.

They also anticipate resolving the issue by Saturday morning to achieve "improved temperature levels" by noon.
