Ramos at the Heritage Park in Taguig City on August 4, 2022. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) -- Former President Rodrigo Duterte has reiterated that he does not recognize the International Criminal Court (ICC) as it has no jurisdiction in the Philippines. </p><p>During the &quot;Basta Dabawenyo&quot; podcast on Monday with former presidential spokespersons Harry Roque and Trixie Angeles, Duterte flashed his middle finger in response to the ICC. </p><p>Duterte is among the subjects of the ICC investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the implementation of his drug war, which resulted in thousands of deaths during police operations. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/30/ph-won-t-help-but-won-t-stop-icc-prosecutor-s-bid-to-interview-drug-war-personalities-1002">PH won&#x27;t help, but won&#x27;t stop ICC prosecutor&#x27;s bid to interview drug war personalities</a></div><p>&quot;P***** i**** ICC na yan. I do not recognize that... Ano yang ICC na yan? Are we or are we not? Yun ang tanong ko muna: Is jurisdiction, abogado ako eh, fiscal ako. Whenever I face a case dito sa korte every day, magtanong ako diyan: Do I have the power? May jurisdiction ba ako dito sa kaso na pino-prosecute niyo? Huwag tayong magdaldal, let&#x27;s go legal,&quot; he said. </p><p>The former president was asked by the former presidential spokespersons if he would attend the Congressional hearing on extra-judicial killings, to which Duterte had been invited. </p><p>Duterte did not answer the question, despite the possibility of a subpoena or contempt if he fails to attend the hearing. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/8/12/bato-suggests-law-banning-cooperation-with-icc-1825">Bato suggests law banning cooperation with ICC</a></div><p>He also said that there are many injustices and acts of violence today that the ICC should focus on. </p><p>&quot;Karaming nangyayari sa mundo. Masaker dito, masaker doon. Pati yung Amerikano, ilan ang pinatay. Ano ba ang ginawa ninyong mga ICC kayo? Karaming injustice, karaming violence, senseless. Walang karason-rason. Dito nangyayari, especially perpetuated by the Americans. Wala kayong ginawa,&quot; he said.</p><p>The Office of the Solicitor General has previously said that the Philippine government will not block the International Criminal Court prosecutor from conducting interviews with &quot;suspects&quot; accused of crimes against humanity in Duterte&#x27;s drug war.</p><p>The Philippine government &quot;has no legal duty to lend any assistance to the ICC prosecutor in conducting his investigation but [it] cannot stop him from proceeding any way he wants,&quot; Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said.</p><p>The ICC prosecutor is investigating Duterte&#x27;s anti-narcotics campaign for what the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber said in 2021 appeared to be &quot;a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population took place pursuant to or in furtherance of a state policy.&quot;</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who succeeded Duterte, has refused to cooperate in the ICC probe and taken no steps to restore membership, saying the Philippines has a functioning judicial system.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/R2vw1aWOrOU?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
