MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Thursday vowed his administration’s continued support to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), particularly in enhancing cybersecurity, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Thursday.

The statement comes as the Philippine leader met with the leadership of the Philippine military during the mid-year AFP Command Conference held in the AFP Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Apart from AFP chief General Romeo Brawner and other ranking military officials, the conference was also attended by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo.

During the meeting, Marcos lauded the men and women of the AFP “for their gallantry in fighting the local insurgency and defending the national territory,” the PCO said in a short statement.

The AFP in a separate statement said that ground commanders during the conference “presented detailed updates on their respective operations and their assessment of internal and external security threats. An outbrief of Exercise Balikatan 39-2024 was also presented to the President.

Meanwhile, Brawner “underscored the AFP’s dedication to evolving its strategies and tactics to address both internal and external threats effectively, ensuring the safety and security of the Philippines.”
