MANILA – Sen. Cynthia Villar said Wednesday she was considering vying for a local position in the 2025 elections.

Villar is in her second consecutive term as senator. She is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election next year.

Villar confirmed she was considering running for mayor of her home turf of Las Pinas, but she is also open to returning to her old seat as the city’s congressional representative in the House of Representatives.

"Tintignan ko pa kung mananalo ako baka matalo lang ako," Villar told the Kapihan sa Manila Hotel forum when asked about running for mayor.

(I'm still figuring it out because I might lose.)

"Ok din sa akin yun, " Villar said of running for the House.

(I'm also fine with that.)

Tackling the factors she is considering, Villar said: “Iba yung local, matutulungan ko yung bayan namin. Yung national naman I can help in policy making kasi mas magagawa mo yun sa House of Representatives. So depende, I'll decide when I have to decide."

(As mayor, I can help our city. In the House, I can help with national policy.)

Villar's daughter Camille currently holds the congressional seat. But the senator’s husband, former Senate President Manny Villar, recently announced that Camille would run for the Senate. Camille is in her second term as congresswoman.

Sen. Villar belongs to the Aguilar clan which has a long history of stewardship of Las Pinas.
