MANILA — A proposed House resolution was filed urging the the Department of Health to provide and disseminate free leptospirosis treatments and anti-tetanus shots through PhilHealth, for areas affected by  typhoon Carina and other calamities.

House Resolution No. 1811 was filed by ACT-CIS party list lawmakers Erwin Tulfo, Eric Go Yap and Jocelyn Tulfo, and Quezon City 2nd district Rep. Ralph Tulfo.

In a privilege speech, Rep. Erwin Tulfo said “ensuring that treatment for leptospirosis and tetanus is fully subsidized by the government would complement PhilHealth's efforts and provide much-needed relief to affected families.”

The proposed House Resolution said the provision of free leptospirosis treatments and anti-tetanus shots “will not only alleviate the financial strain on affected individuals and families but also ensure timely and effective medical care, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rates associated with these infections.”

“It is essential that we act on this matter not only out or compassion but also out of a sense of justice. No one should have to struggle with life threatening diseases simply because they are already suffering from the effects of a disaster. Our resolution is a step towards addressing inequity and ensuring that our disaster response framework is comprehensive and effective.”
