MANILA – A rescue boat of Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO) capsized during an operation to help victims of typhoon Carina on Wednesday night. 

Authorities had rescued some residents Barangay Sto Niño after floods spawned by heavy rains reached the second floor of their homes. 


Eight residents and six volunteers and DRRMO personnel were on their way to an evacuation center when the boat they were riding capsized around 8 p.m., said local disaster office head Dave David.

According to the initial investigation, the rubber boat got hooked to a street pole. 


All passengers were safely rescued and given medical attention. 


“Sinecure nila ‘yong mga na-rescue nila. Part naman ng protocol natin na lahat ng tao na sasakay ng bangka...naka-life vest, naka-helmet,” David added.


Volunteers involved in the incident were advised to take a break from rescue operations to recuperate.
