Large LED screen collapses at pro-Marcos SONA event. ABS-CBN NewsMANILA — Strong winds knocked down a large LED screen and injured one of the staff at a concert being organized by supporters of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), organizers said Monday.

"I hope he's OK. I’m pretty sure he will be well attended to by the medical team," actress Jan Marini, the event's organizer, said of the injured personnel.

"As for our artists' concern, there was some damage to belongings. But we know this can happen during these types of natural occurrences," she also said.

The concert, dubbed "Tunog ng Bagong Pilipinas," was being held along a portion of Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

PASSING MARK

Marini said this is their way to entertain Marcos' supporters who came from different localities.

They gave the President a passing mark for his "hard work."

Marlon Mendoza, chairperson of One Movement, said he is most impressed with Marcos' stance on the West Philippine Sea.

"Sa akin po ang nag-i-stand out at may pinakamalaking impact ay 'yung kaniyang paninindigan pagdating sa teritorrial issue. Sabi niya kahit isang square inch ay hindi niya ibibigay ang anumang bahagi ng lupa ng Pilipinas. Hindi lang salita, kundi ginagawa," he said.

(What stands out or most impactful to me is his position on territorial issues. He said he would not give away even a square inch of the Philippines.)

Back in May, Marcos said that he would do "whatever it takes to protect our sovereign home" and that the country has defined its territory and maritime zones according to law.

Mendoza is hopeful that the President will not only speak of his accomplishments but will also bare plans for the remainder of his term.

"Alam natin na ang pagbabago ay hindi overnight success. There’s a process at ito ay unti-unting naisasakatuparan. Ang hiling niya lang ay solidarity and unity among the Filipino people," Mendoza said.

(We know that change does not happen overnight. There’s a process and it is slowly being fulfilled. What the president is calling for is solidarity and unity among the Filipino people.)

Marini, the event organizer, said that she and other showbiz personalities are also optimistic that they will benefit from the Eddie Garcia Law, which seeks protection and ensures the welfare of workers in the movie and television industry.

"I’m thankful also to the President and the First Lady for being so passionate in supporting our art. A big thanks from the industry," Marini said.
