MANILA -- "Carina" has intensified further, turning into a severe tropical storm while remaining almost stationary over the Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA late Sunday.

Carina, which was last sighted 385 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora, will bring moderate to rough seas over the coastal waters along the northern and eastern seaboard and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, said the state weather bureau in its 11 p.m. update.

The weather disturbance is forecast to intensify over the next four days due to favorable environment. It is forecast to reach typhoon category within 24 hours.

PAGASA said Carina is forecast to move generally north northwestward to northward until Tuesday, while gradually accelerating before turning northwestward on Wednesday.
