The ramp at the EDSA Busway-Philam station in Quezon City recently went viral for being deemed too steep for its intended users, specifically wheelchair-bound individuals.

Batas Pambansa 344, or the Accessibility Law, requires ramps to have a minimum clear width of 1.20 meters with a maximum gradient of 1:12. The length of the ramp should not exceed 6 meters if the gradient is 1:12; longer ramps with a gradient of 1:12 must be provided with landings not less than 1.5 meters.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) admitted through a statement that the ramp connecting the elevator and the footbridge was “imperfectly designed” due to a height restriction imposed by the Metro Rail Transit.

The MMDA said they will assign personnel to assist PWDs using the ramp.
