<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1720674289520GSLZersbIAAK3-5.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Makabayan coalition announces on July 11, 2024 that it is fielding a full 12-person senatorial slate for the 2025 elections. <em>Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Makabayan Coalition announced Thursday that it would field a full 12-person Senate slate for the 2025 elections.</p><p>Makabayan is a political coalition of eight Philippine progressive parties, including Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela, ACT Teachers, and Kabataan.</p><p>The group said it would pick candidates who champion the interest of the masses.</p><p>&quot;Hindi sila mula sa angkan ng mga mayayaman o dinastiya sa pulitika. Hindi kurap… Maipagmamalaki namin na mula sila sa hanay ng mga manggagawa, magsasaka, kababaihan, kabataan, mangingisda, katutubo at sektor na matagal nang tinatanggalan ng boses sa Kongreso,&quot; the group said in a statement read during their press conference.</p><p>Former Makabayan lawmakers Liza Maza, Satur Ocampo, Antonio Tinio, and Neri Colmenares were present in the event.</p><p>Makabayan has started the process of forming the slate, with ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro being the first to be named as its senatorial candidate.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/6/26/rep-france-castro-to-run-for-senate-in-2025-2222">• Rep. France Castro to run for Senate in 2025</a></div><p>Colmenares said while Makabayan prioritizes screening possible candidates from its member organizations, it was also open to talking to other candidates who share its platform.</p><p>“Bilang isang coalition, ang Makabayan ang priority niya yung galing sa hanay niya, mga miyembro niyang organisasyon.  Bukas naman kami sa pakikipag-usap sa ilang indibidwal na kandidato na magkaisa kami sa plataporma, magkaisa kami sa mga pananaw sa isyu.
