MANILA – Dennis Cunanan skipped the latest Senate hearing on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) because he did not receive a subpoena, his lawyer said Thursday.

Cunanan was not aware of Wednesday’s Senate hearing and only found out about it when it was already ongoing, said his lawyer Iryl Boco.

“Mr. Cunanan did not receive the subpoena issued by the Senate, which is why neither he nor any representative was able to attend,” Boco said.

Cunanan was an authorized representative of Lucky South 99 in Porac, Pampanga, a POGO whose license was canceled and later on raided and closed down for illegal activities.

During Wednesday’s hearing, senators moved to cite Cunanan in contempt and issue an arrest order against him along with Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, her siblings, father and alleged mother Wen Yi Lin. All of them were also absent during the inquiry.

“We will be filing our explanation and/or necessary motion,” Boco said. “We’re looking into the Senate rules pa as to what specific motion would apply.”

According to Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco, Cunanan allegedly failed to pay the bills of Lucky South 99 even if the money was given to him, based on the accounts of Cassandra Ong, another representative of the POGO.

Boco did not comment on Tengco’s testimony and said they would give their statement in the proper forum.

“We have always intended to cooperate with the investigation,” the lawyer said.
