Arnold Bautista, 47, turns emotional as he joins other workers of Sofitel Philippine Plaza during a press conference at Max's Restaurant in Manila on Monday, to protest the termination of workers due to the hotel’s closure.

Over a thousand hotel workers are facing immediate termination from their jobs by July 1 after management decided to renovate the facilities, citing the building’s unsafe conditions.

Members of the NUWHRAIN Philippine Plaza Chapter (PPC) and Philippine Plaza Supervisors Chapter (PPSC), which represent the rank-and-file and supervisory employees, expressed concern over the recent decision to close the hotel, citing its impact on their income and livelihood.
