MMDA Strike Force officer-in-charge head Gabriel Go believes that despite stubborn motorists parking illegally on alternate routes and road pavements, the agency is making progress in achieving its goal of clearing roads from obstructions.

Go told ABS-CBN News that he is seeing a slight improvement on the road and side streets every day after conducting repeated clearing operations.

"For that I would say yes somehow kasi madami ding mga areas and streets na nabawasan ang illegal parking and obstruction. Like in the case of Isagan yung complain dun na mga food stores nasa kalsada wala na sila totally. Then Panay Avenue pa ilan ilan nalang,"  Go said.

On Friday, the MMDA clearing team went back to streets in Manila that are notoriously known for illegal parking and road obstructions like Capulong Street in Tondo.

The MMDA saw obstructions like unattended private vehicles, tires of trucks from a vulcanizing shops and some portable swimming pools on the street.

MMDA enforcers did not confiscate the portable pool but gave a stern warning to owner that it will be confiscated the next time they will use the road as their pool area.

"Alam naman po natin na hindi natin pipigilan na magkaroon ng konting kasiyahan lalo na po ang mga anak natin pero sana isipin din natin kapakanan ng mga bata but also consideration sa mga guamgamit ng kalsada,” Go explained.

In Quezon City, the clearing team towed illegally parked vehicles - most of which are owned by private motorists.

Based on MMDA data from November 2023 when Go assumed the position as the head of its Strike Force, up to June 26, 2024 or more than 6 months, the agency's total apprehensions from its clearing operations Metro Manila have reached 10,980 and of these number 2,175 were towed.

Go said the agency won't get tired of conducting clearing operations to instill discipline to vehicle owners.
