MANILA -- Government prosecutors presented their first witness on the first day of trial for the multiple murder cases of former Negros Oriental 3rd District congressman Arnolfo Teves, Jr.

Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, widow of governor Roel Degamo, attended the trial while Teves remains in Timor Leste where extradition proceedings against him are on-going.

Before the trial proper, accused Marvin Miranda was arraigned and did not enter a plea, prompting the court to enter a not guilty plea.

Siblings Angelo and Jay Ann Palagtiw entered not guilty pleas.

Lawyers from the prosecution and defense, as well as Degamo refused to grant interviews with the media after the hearing.

Degamo said there is a supposed gag order from Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Presiding Judge Merianthe Pacita Zuraek.
