Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte this slammed Sen. Christopher "Bong" Go for his supposed silence on recent issues in the southern city.

Go has also been absent in Hakbang ng Maisug rallies including in Angeles, Pampanga on Monday, where the son of former president Rodrigo Duterte called out the lawmaker from Davao City.

"Ikaw Bong Go, Kumpare kita. Pero kung alam ko lang pala na magkakaganito, you know, yung mga nagboto, kaming mga Dabawenyo, nagboto kami sa'yo, Bong. Kung alam ko lang na ganito lang pala yung gagawin mo, sana hindi na lang," Baste Duterte said during his speech at the Hakbang ng Maisug rally in Pampanga.

The mayor has been vocal against the recent police operations that aimed to arrest Pastor Apollo Quiboloy at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ properties in Davao City, calling it an excessive show of force.

Duterte said compared Go to Sen. Risa Hontiveros, who the mayor said was consistent about her stance.

"Pero unfortunately for us, mas napabilib pa ako nitong si Risa Hontiveros kaysa ni Bong. Kasi ever since talaga, yung previous administration, kalaban niya, hanggang ngayon, consistent 'yan at hindi talaga natatakot yan," he said.

Addressing Go, he said, "You have time to redeem yourself. You have time na ipakita sa amoa that you will stand by the Filipino people. So you love, yung pagmamahal mo sa bansa, mas umaapaw pa kaysa sa pagmamahal mo sa sarili mo kasi hirap na hirap na yung mga tao ngayon." 

'PUBLIC SERVICE FIRST' 

In a statement, Go said Wednesday he understood the sentiments of the Davao City mayor, but for now, he is prioritizing public service.

"As they say, there is always a time for everything. Kaya pagseserbisyo ang inuuna ko sa ngayon," Go said.

"Ako ay patuloy na nagseserbisyo dahil ito ang aking mandato at natutunan mismo kay dating Pangulong Duterte," he added.

On Thursday, Go posted photos with former president Duterte at the latter's residence.

"Tulad ng payo ni FPRRD sa akin mula noon hanggang ngayon: 'Gawin ang tama, gampanan ang tungkulin sa bayan, at unahin ang interes ng mga Pilipino'," he said.

Aside from being a Davaoeño, Go said he has roots from Luzon and was adopted by many towns, cities, and provinces.

"I support the Dutertes and my fellow Davaoeños dahil ako ay isang Dabawenyo. Ang pamilya ko ay galing sa Batangas. Lumaki rin ako sa Metro Manila. Bisaya rin ako. At itinuturing ako na adopted son ng maraming munisipyo, lungsod at probinsya. That is why my loyalty is and will always be with the Filipino people," he said. 

'NEUTRALITY'

On Thursday, the younger Duterte shared Go's post on social media, telling the senator that it is time to stand against tyranny.

"Sige ra kag selfie nga naay ayuda ginahatag and if not selfie ana akong amahan kay gamiton nimo for publicity. Wala kay imohang ikabarog nga kaugalingong pulitika? Read your own caption and reflect if you are really actually doing what you are saying," he said.

Quoting Dante Alighieri, Duterte said, “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality."
