MANILA— Students in the Philippines lagged behind in terms of creative thinking compared to students in other countries, the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) showed.

In its 2022 cycle, PISA measured15-year-old students’ creative thinking or the “ability to generate, evaluate and improve ideas to produce original and effective solutions, advance knowledge and create impactful expressions of imagination”.

With a PISA score of 14, Philippines ranked 60 out of 62 countries and economies that participated in the assessment.

Students in Philippines have among the lowest performance in creative thinking, PISA said.

“The observed creative thinking performance in Philippines is lower than the expected performance, after accounting for performance in reading,” it added.

Singapore scored significantly higher than all other participating countries and economies in creative thinking.

Students in Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Belgium,  Poland and Portugal also performed above OECD [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development] average.

An earlier study by PISA also showed that Filipino students were also the lowest scorers  in reading, math and science.
