MANILA — Newly-appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Dir. Jaime Santiago visited the clearance section of the bureau on Wednesday. 

Accompanied by Assistant Director Lito Magno, Santiago said he wanted a faster and easier process in applying for NBI clearances.

Magno said the NBI processes around 37,000 clearances nationwide daily. He said the DTI has increased clearance kiosks in malls and mobile clearance services for far-flung towns and island communities.

Santiago added that he wanted a faster verification of records for NBI clearance applicants who have a “hit”. These include applicants who have pending cases or those who have a namesake that have pending cases.

Santiago also visited the records area, where he used to work as a job-order record checker for two years, after he graduated in 1977. Magno also started as a record checker in the NBI.

The new director visited the construction site in Taft Avenue, Manila, where the old NBI HQ was demolished. The new HQ is expected to be built and finished in 4 years.
