MANILA -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Wednesday night released more photos depicting the "coercive, aggressive, and barbaric actions" of the China Coast Guard during the humanitarian rotation and resupply mission at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal last Monday.

AFP chief of staff Romeo Brawner, Jr. said on Wednesday that the CCG "hijacked" the RORE mission, which resulted in damage to their vessels, including their communication and navigation equipment.

A Navy officer was severely injured in the incident and lost his right thumb.

Photos released by the AFP showed the damage incurred by their windshield, communications and navigational equipment when they were "intentionally destroyed by the CCG."

Their Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat was also deliberately slashed by the CCG using machetes, knives, and pikes, according to the AFP.

They also showed photos of CCG personnel "brandishing bladed and pointed weapons threatening to injure AFP troops" and "threatening to injure an AFP soldier with a pickaxe."

China has denied taking direct action against the Philippine navy.

Speaking on Wednesday, China Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said that the China Coast Guard "was professional and restrained and aimed at stopping the illegal 'resupply mission'."

"China Coast Guard didn't take direct measures against the Philippine personnel," he added. "China urges the Philippines to stop its infringement and provocation at once. We will continue to defend our sovereignty and lawful rights and interests."

Beijing claims almost the entirety of the South China Sea, brushing aside competing claims from several Southeast Asian nations including the Philippines and an international ruling that its stance has no legal basis.
