MANILA — Newly-installed People’s Television (PTV) general manager Toby Nebrida vowed to work with and listen to the station's employees, who have earlier urged Malacañang to recall his appointment.

“I will work with them. Kung may mga agam-agam, I will listen. Bahagi ‘yan ng ating lipunan, ng ating demokrasya, ng paghahayag. And it's ironic if I will not, as head of the national broadcasting network, not to allow people to air their grievances, legitimate or otherwise,” Nebrida said in an interview with Malacañang reporters.

The former spokesperson of Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) took his oath Tuesday before Presidential Communications Office Secretary Atty Cheloy Garafil in Malacañang.

A day earlier, a number of PTV employees held a press conference to express their public support for his predecessor Analisa Puod.

Nebrida is expected to assume his post on Wednesday, when a turnover ceremony will be held.

“The directive is fairly simple. We will continue the improvements and making the network more responsive in fulfilling its mandate as the people's network. So that's what we're going to be doing,” he said.

As new general manager, Nebrida vows to improve the capabilities and skills of PTV personnel, revisit the current lineup of programs, and upgrade the technical capabilities of the state television network.

“I understand an ongoing reorganization has already started. We intend to pursue that organization. Anything, anything that will make the state, the status of our employees move to a better condition, that's what we're going to do, number one. Anything that will make the status of our employees move to a better condition, that’s what we’re going to do,” he said.
