Notably, Ifugao State University emerged as a strong contender in its first-ever participation to the THE IR, securing the second spot as the best performing Philippine HEI tying with the University of the Philippines and De La Salle University,&quot; the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said in a statement.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/04/28/22/ateneo-leads-ph-schools-in-2022-the-impact-rankings">• Ateneo leads PH universities in 2022 ranking on sustainable dev’t goals</a></div><p>CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera said the ranking is proof that Philippine HEIs &quot;are consciously benchmarking and internationalizing their programs... in the context of the global Social Development Goals.&quot;</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/video/news/09/05/23/screening-test-for-free-tuition-could-be-disastrous-ched-chair" id="isPasted">• Screening test for free college tuition could be &#x27;disastrous,&#x27; says CHED chair De Vera</a></div><p>“We are witnessing a paradigm shift where universities are actively integrating social development goals into their core mission,” he said.</p><p>The CHED noted that the number of Philippine HEIs ranked this year nearly doubled compared to last year, &quot;manifesting a continuous increase for six years in a row.&quot;</p><p>&quot;From one HEI evaluated in 2019, four in 2020 and 2021, 15 in 2022, 29 last year to 56 institutions subjected themselves to THE evaluation  in 2024. This is a significant increase of 93 percent from last year,&quot; it said.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/04/20/23/ched-eyes-return-service-requirement-in-public-colleges-universities" id="isPasted">• CHED seeks &#x27;return service&#x27; requirement among public colleges, universities</a></div><p>The Philippines also ranked among the top 10 countries with the most number of  participating HEIs.</p><p>THE said it evaluated 2,152 universities from 125 countries  or regions for the 2024 IR report. Australia’s Western Sydney University topped the list for the third consecutive year.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/spotlight/05/01/22/why-world-university-rankings-matter">• CHED: World rankings improve universities&#x27; reputation</a></div><p>&quot;Not only do these institutions stand out in individual areas but they also demonstrate comprehensive excellence in contributing to global sustainable development.
