MANILA — Sen. Raffy Tulfo on Thursday said he is most likely to just seek reelection in 2028 despite being a frontrunner in a recent survey ranking prospective presidential candidates.

Last month, Tulfo and Vice President Sara Duterte were statistically tied in first place in the Pulse Asia survey for the 2028 presidential elections.

Tulfo said since the survey came out, questions about his 2028 plans have been persistent.

"Palaging tinatanong yan sakin ng mga kaibigan ko, kung ako raw ay tatakbo sa presidential election. Pag sinabi kong hindi, walang maniniwala, pag sinabi kong oo, walang maniniwala," he told ANC's Headstart.

For now, Tulfo said he has no plans of running for president in 2028.

"Ito lang masasabi ko, wala sa utak ko ang pagtakbo as president sa 2028. Naka-focus ako ngayon sa Senado. And I'm enjoying being a senator," said Tulfo, a first-time lawmaker elected in 2022.

"Sa 2028, reelection at the most ang pwedeng gagawin ko," he added.

Several analysts have attempted to explain the appeal of the Tulfo family in elective politics.

"The Tulfos in elective politics are still new. People might be willing to give them a chance owing to their prior record of addressing their concerns,"  Pulse Asia president Ronald Holmes earlier said.

Meanwhile, political analyst Julio Teehankee said the rise of the Tulfo brand was proof of weakness of the justice system.
