The Department of Justice lauded government prosecutors who worked on the conviction of Cornejo, Lee, Guerrero and Raz.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement that Antipolo City Prosecutor Mari Elvira Herrera, Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Hazel Decena-Valdez and Deputy State Prosecutor Olivia Torrevillas successfully prosecuted the case.

The DOJ said in the statement that in 2014, through the prosecution panel, it charged the accused individuals for conspiring to detain Navarro in a condominium unit in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

The charge also cited that while depriving Navarro of his liberty, the accused inflicted serious physical injuries and threatened to kill Navarro and demanded money as a condition for his release.

“This conviction is a testament of the hard work and dedication of our prosecutors that the DOJ will always serve as a beacon of hope for victims of injustice, reaffirming our commitment to the people that justice will be enforced to or against anyone regardless of social status, fame, power or wealth," Remulla said in the statement.

DECONGESTION

BuCor Director General Pio Gregorio Catapang noted that they are no longer allowed to accept more PDLs at the Bilibid as there is an ongoing decongestion program in prison facilities nationwide.

Catapang said he ordered NBP Superintendent C/CINSP Roger Boncales to determine where the PDLs would be committed.

The BuCor also said it has yet to receive the commitment order for Cedric Lee, who surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Thursday night.

Lee, Cornejo, Raz, and Ferdinand Guerrero were found guilty in the case filed by Navarro in a ruling by the Taguig Regional Trial Court made public Thursday. Guerrero remains at large, the police said Friday.
