MANILA — The Philippine Air Force conducted a resupply mission for troops stationed at Patag Island during the multilateral maritime exercise (MME) of the Philippines, the United States, and France in the West Philippine Sea.

The airdrop resupply drills were done twice using a PAF light transport aircraft NC-212i on April 27 as part of the ongoing Balikatan exercise, said Balikatan 2024 executive agent Col. Michael Logico.

“One NC-212i aircraft proceeded to the Island of Lawak and conducted two passes of resupply—first through parachute and the other through airdrop,” Logico told reporters in a regular press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Tuesday.

“The aircraft that conducted the resupply exercise passed right above the group sail,” he added.

Logico noted that the activity was only conducted by Manila, despite it being done during the 5-day MME with Washington and Paris.

“This was all unilateral on our part. We saw a training opportunity to conduct a resupply exercise while the group sail was ongoing,” he said.

In January, the Armed Forces of the Philippines successfully conducted an airdrop mission to the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.

A senior military official, who spoke to defense reporters on condition of anonymity, said Philippine Navy Islander maritime patrol aircraft NV314 airdropped the supplies to personnel of the grounded ship on January 18.

The AFP’s rotation and resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal that time was aborted after supply boat Unaizah May 1 suffered technical difficulties.
