A Filipino woman died while her husband is in critical condition after a fire broke out in a residential building in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, the Department of Migrant Workers said.

USec. Hans Leo Cacdac also said 11 other Filipinos, which include at least 2 children, were evacuated from the same building.

“Nasawi ang ating kababayan, siya po ay esposa ng ating overseas Filipino worker, isang skilled worker, na ngayon ay nasa critical condition,” Cacdac told Teleradyo Serbisyo.

Cacdac said the Philippine government will be providing the necessary financial assistance to the victims of the fire.

It will also be providing legal aid should the need arise.

Cacdac also said they have coordinated with the family of the victims, and are awaiting the go signal from local authorities to proceed with the repatriation of the Filipino victim’s remains.

“Inaasahan din natin na maka-recover ang kababayan natin na nasa critical condition,” he also said.

The fire broke out in a high-rise residential building in Al Nahda in Sharjah, according to a report from Khaleej Times.

Aside from the Filipina, four others were killed, while 44 were injured in the fire.
