Some 16 students at University of Georgia were arrested Monday after setting up a temporary encampment on campus in Athens.

Similar actions have been growing in several universities and colleges all over the U.S. since it began two weeks ago at Columbia University in New York City.

The students are calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and for their schools to separate themselves from any companies that are advancing Israel’s military efforts.

On April 25, a student demonstration at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia turned violent and led to 28 arrests, including two faculty members.

A Filipino American student who requested anonymity said she has been at the protests on campus. She said she was disappointed at how the school handled the situation.

"It was art, music, students talking to each other, giving out food to one another, supporting each other in kind forms," she said. "And then you have these pressures from [police] coming onto campus."

Emory University president Gregory Fenves has apologized to officials who initially claimed that the protesters were from outside the university.

He ordered a review of when the university should turn to outside police agencies after videos surfaced that showed people being tackled to the ground and shocked with electric sun guns.

Despite the safety concerns, the Filipino American student who spoke to ABS-CBN News said she would continue to support her peers.

“As Filipino-Americans, our identities itself are politically already inclined," she said. "Silence would only further the issue in a negative light."

"It's my responsibility and frankly other Filipino-Americans' responsibilities who have the mental capacity and ability to voice their concerns and show their support for not only condemning student violence but condemning the actions over abroad.”

Over 700 student protesters across the U.S. have been arrested on campuses since April 18. To date, there is no indication that the protests will die down any time soon.
