MANILA -- The Department of Justice welcomed the issuance by the Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 12 of warrants of arrest against Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder and leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his five co-accused.

In a statement, the DOJ said Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla respects the independence of the court and will “let the wheels of justice move on its own.”

“Our prosecutors performed their duties excellently according to their mandate.  We now leave it to the court to do its share,” Remulla added.

The DOJ however stressed that Presiding Judge Dante Baguio found probable cause to issue the warrants last March 14, 2024 after a judicious examination and perusal of information.

In the court order, Baguio said there was already a finding of probable cause against Quiboloy but his lawyers filed  motion to defer or suspend the issuance of a warrant because of a pending motion for reconsideration before the DOJ.

“Now that more than reasonable time has lapsed, the court has not received any resolution on the motion for reconsideration of the accused neither a copy of the same was furnished to the court by the accused’s counsel nor a manifestation was duly filed at the very least,” Baguio said in the order dated April 1, 2024.

“This may be a very tedious fight, but I hope justice will be completely delivered to those who deserve it,” Remulla said.
