Ingat, Kapamilya! It's going to be a scorching hot Wednesday, with the heat index forecast to hit 44 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, according to weather bureau PAGASA. 

The latest heat index forecast showed temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius in NAIA Pasay City and 43 degrees Celsius in Science Garden, Quezon City. 

PAGASA weather forecaster Lorie dela Cruz said Aparri, Cagayan recorded the highest heat index yet at 48 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, April 23.  

Dagupan City and Sangley Point in Cavite also posted extreme danger heat index temperatures at 47 degrees Celsius yesterday.

CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur is forecast to experience 46-degree Celsius heat index while 5 other areas -- Dagupan City, Aparri, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, Puerto Princesa City and Aborlan in Palawan - will experience 45 degrees Celsius heat index this Wednesday. 

Other areas forecast to experience 44 degrees Celsius heat index are Tuguegarao City in Cagayan and Guiuan in Eastern Samar. 

The following areas are also set to experience 43 degrees Celsius heat index:

Coron, Palawan

Legazpi City, Albay

Roxas City, Capiz

Iloilo City, Iloilo

PAGASA said an intertropical convergence zone is set to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to the Davao Region, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said the local government has suspended face-to-face classes and shifted to asynchronous classes for Wednesday because of the extreme heat.

She warned the heat index only measures indoor temperature “so it is possible that it is even hotter outside.”

Local health centers and barangay health workers are currently on alert for cases of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
