Ingat, Kapamilya! There's a new criminal scheme called "Glue Ladies" that targets people, mostly senior citizens, who use automated teller machines.

Here's how it works: the criminal will insert a very thin plastic, steel or fiber ruler with glue into the ATM's cash dispenser. Once the cash is stuck to the glue, the user would think the ATM has a glitch and will just leave, allowing the crook to get the cash.

Another part of the modus is to apply glue on the ATM keypad and the card slot, causing the keys and the card to get stuck.

The criminal will then approach the bewildered ATM user and offer to help, usually asking the user to key in their PIN. The crook will then memorize the PIN even as the card remains stuck and then instruct the user to just go to the bank and complain.

Once the victim leaves, the crook will then retrieve the ATM card and then withdraw the money from a different ATM.

Finally, the crooks sometimes pretend to be bank employees who then offer to assist senior citizens making deposits.

"Once nakuha na nila ang loob at tiwala, ito ay tutulungan nilang magdeposito ng kanilang pera o kung ito na 'yung senior citizens na-busy na or may ibang pinagkakaabalahan, 'yung perpetrator isi-switch niya 'yung similar looking envelope 'yung kanilang pera at saka sila tatakas," Police Maj. Sophia Almarie Tamacay, chief of the Special Concern Section of the PNP-SOSIA Enforcement Management Division, said in an interview.

Tamacay said the "Glue Ladies" crooks usually monitor a potential victim and can commit the crime even if there are other people present.
