MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday condemned the ambush by suspected Dawlah Islamiya terrorists in Maguindanao del Sur that killed 4 soldiers on Sunday.

"We strongly condemn the cowardly ambush that targeted four of our courageous soldiers in Maguindanao del Sur on March 17," Marcos posted on social media platform X.

"This despicable act only strengthens our resolve to eradicate terrorism from the region and our entire nation."

Marcos said that his administration remains resolute in its pledge to ensure swift justice for the fallen soldiers and that he has instructed “the immediate provision of benefits and assistance to support the families they leave behind.”

"Let this tragic event unite us in our unwavering commitment to a safer, stronger, and insurgency-free Philippines. Together, we shall prevail against these acts of violence," he said.

Commanders of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central condemned the attack, which occurred at 10 a.m. Sunday in Tuayan 1.

Major General Alex S. Rillera, head of the 6ID/JTFC,  said the 4 were on their way back after buying food for iftar - the evening meal of Muslims after sundown during Ramadan - when they were attacked.

The Philippine Army said it is ready to extend help to the families of the victims.
